Quote request email is actually a malware scam

This scam message is meant to look like a quote request and is accompanied by an attachment containing malware.

MailGuard has detected this innocuous looking message which reads “we will like to know the price and availability of the following item in attach.”

“Please note that item #9 and #12 demand urgent attention,” the message insists, “we awaits your quick response.”

Any recipient unwary enough to click on the attached document titled “REQUEST FOR QUOTATION,” will have malware installed on their computer.

This scam utilises a strategy commonly employed by cybercriminals where they attempt to create a false sense of urgency in the recipient of a message to get them to click on their malicious links.

Language like “urgent attention” and “quick response” can cue people to act without thinking if they are busy and under pressure.

Don't get scammed

If your company’s email accounts aren’t protected, scam emails like the one above are almost certainly being received by your staff.  Cybercriminals know people can be tricked; that’s why they send out millions of scam messages and put so much effort into making them look convincing.

People are not machines; we're all capable of making bad judgement calls. Without email filtering protecting your business, it’s just a matter of time before someone in your organisation has a momentary lapse of judgement and clicks on the wrong thing.
